TEANECK, N.J. - FDU Baseball (21-12, 15-3 NEC) dropped the final game of a three game set with the Stonehill Skyhawks (13-17, 11-4 NEC) on Sunday afternoon at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
FDU was the first to the scoreboard in the Sunday contest as the Knights used a
Johnathan Gomez leadoff home run to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning. From there, the Skyhawks punched back with a four run second inning, jumping on the FDU starter
Drew Cisney.
FDU would fire back with a big inning of their own in the bottom half of the second inning, as the Knights would plate four thanks to a two run single by
Jeremy Delamota and a two run home run by
Travis Stroh. The game would be tied at five after a wild two innings.
Stonehill would get right back on the offensive in the third, taking the lead back with a RBI double, and the score would sit at 6-5 until the fifth, where Stonehill added another run by way of a sacrifise fly. The two run deficit would be answered in a big way by FDU as
Nick Quagliato hit a three run home run to give the Knights the lead back, continuing the back and forth trend in the ballgame.
Stonehill would then supply rallies in both the seventh and the eighth innings, scoring eight more runs in those two innings, and using good outings from Jack Welsch and Noah Basgaard out of the bullpen, keeping the Knights at bay to win the ballgame and salvage the series after FDU won the first two ballgames.
FDU's loss drops the Knights to 21-12 on the season, and Sunday's loss marks the third in NEC play. The Knights will hold onto first place in the conference for another weekend, with Stonehill sitting in second with 15 games left in the conference slate.
The Knights will play another stretch of five games next week, opening with a Tuesday contest against the Fordham Rams. First pitch from Naimoli Family Baseball Complez is set for 3 p.m.
