The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team was beaten, 10-5, at Duke University, Wednesday, March 14 in Durham, NC. The Knights slipped to 4-5 overall, despite two hits and an RBI by junior infielder Luis Rosario (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) (Bronx, NY).
Senior outfielder Vincente-Alexander Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) (North Bergen, NJ) walked to lead-off the top of the fifth frame and Rosario doubled to left. Both came around to score two batters later on a fielder's choice and subsequent throwing error.
Sophomore infielder Jeff Vincent (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) (Belmar, PA) plated sophomore catcher Vincent Pennacchio (Huntington Station, NY/Commack) (Huntington Station, NY) with a sacrifice fly. Senior infielder Jovan Santos (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Malloy) (Woodhaven, NY) scored on a passed ball, shifting FDU ahead, 4-3.
In the sixth inning, Rosario drove home a run ? sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA), who had reached on a fielder's choice.
Right-hander Nicholas Melchiorre (Mount Laurel, NJ) recorded a no-decision in his first collegiate start, yielding two earned runs off the bat of a two-run homer by Blue Devils' (17-4) outfielder Alexander Hassan in the bottom of the third inning. The freshman allowed four hits in five innings of work.
Freshman southpaw Terry Lydecker (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) (Pompton Lakes, NJ) maneuvered out of a jam to collect three-straight outs for a scoreless sixth.
Duke infielder Brett Bartles deposited sophomore righty Ryan Hennessy (Mahopac, NY/Trinity Pawling)'s (Mohopac, NY) pitch over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead, 6-5. The Blue Devils sealed the game by tacking on four more in the following inning.
