The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team fell 80-50 at Burt Hahn Court on the campus of Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT on Monday afternoon.
Quinnipiac jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the game's opening 3:07. The FDU defense clamped down and battled back to a 14-11 deficit with 11:33 remaining.
Fairleigh Dickinson's bench gave the squad a shot in the arm as freshman forward Katie Warehime dropped in seven points in eight minutes of floor time during the first-half. The freshman contributed 11 points, on the strength of shooting 7-for-8 from the foul line.
Sophomore forward Jennifer Walkling posted five points in the opening 20 minutes, en route to contributing seven points before fouling out with 6:34 left in the contest. Junior guard Gayle Coats came off the bench to notch a season-high four points - with both buckets coming in the first-half.
The Bobcats (9-5, 4-1 NEC) took a 51-22 lead at halftime, out-rebounding FDU in the first-half, 30-13. The Knights defense came out sharp in the second-half holding Quinnipiac to six points in the opening 6:10.
Freshman forward Heather Coombs recorded a career-high 22 minutes, putting together career-highs in points and rebounds with 11 and five, respectively. The freshman also drained a career-high two three-pointers in two attempts.
Quinnipiac was led by the freshman backcourt tandem of Erin Kerner and Brianna Rooney who combined 4-of-6 from three-point land in the first-half. Kerner notched 14 points in the opening 20 minutes, en route to a game-high 18 in the game. Rooney tallied 10 points in the first-half and 11 in the contest.
The Knights (3-10, 0-5) host St. Francis (NY) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Rothman Center. Fairleigh Dickinson's sixth NEC contest of the season will be televised on Fox Sports Network - New York.
