Junior Danielle McEwan was named Athlete of the Week after her solid performance at the New Jersey Jamboree this past weekend (Nov. 4-6) which was the Knights' own event that welcomed 19 of the nation's top teams.
She was named to the All-Tournament team after posting a 22.02 frame average, knocking down 1692 pins in Baker competition, knocking down 1083 pins in traditional competition, averaging a score of 216.6 and filling 90.5 percent of the frames, while registering 101 strikes and 43 spares in 177 attempts.
The Knights, who made their sixth-ever trip to the NCAA Final Four this past April, navigated their way through a tournament field that featured four other 2011 NCAA Championship participants (Sam Houston State, Vanderbilt, defending national champ UMES, and NEC member Kutztown).
FDU went 2-3 on the first day of the three-day Bowl for the Cure event at Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park (Home of the 2011 NEC Championship), but managed to accumulate the third-highest pinfall on the team leader board. The Knights won all five of their matches in traditional team play on Saturday, Nov. 5 and climbed atop the team standings in terms of pinfall.
FDU dropped its first match in best-of-seven championship bracket play to Vandy on Sunday, but knocked off Sam Houston to receive another shot at the Commodores with the tournament title on the line.FDU, which finished first at the Bethune-Cookman University Invite in Daytona Beach on October 30, defeated Vanderbilt 4.5 games to 1.5 games in t eh best-of-seven series to claim their second championship crown in two weeks.
