Fairleigh Dickinson University senior softball player Mikayla Fernandez was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday, April 15.
Fernandez led the Knights to a 4-2 record last week, which included a sweep of Saint Peter's and two conference wins. She went 11-for-19 on the week, with a 4-for-5 performance against Saint Peter's and a 4-for-4 showing against Sacred Heart that included three RBI and three runs scored.
The senior from California knocked three home runs out of the park this week, one in each series the team played, and recorded eight RBI on the week. Fernandez crossed the plate on eight occasions, walked twice and stole one base, while striking out just once in 19 plate appearances.
Fernandez currently leads the team with a .330 batting average and a .560 slugging percentage. She has hit a team-leading five home runs on the season and knocked in 14 RBI. The right fielder also leads the team in runs scored with 18.
