Fairleigh Dickinson men's golf standout Tom Barnes was named the Northeast Conference Golfer of the Month, the league announced Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Barnes posted the lowest one-round average (72.3) of all NEC golfers in the month of September. The fourth-year Knight was under par for two of his first six rounds of the season, carding a pair of 70s, which tied career lows.
Barnes opened his senior season by finishing 8-over-par at the three-round Rutgers Invitational (Sept. 19-20). Shooting a 221 (76-75-70), he tied his career-best round on the tournament's final day.
Barnes continued his hot start to the season at George Mason's Patriot Intercollegiate (Sept. 28-29), finishing the three-round event at even-par. Leading FDU with a 213 (71-70-72) score over the 54 holes, he took fifth place (out of 104 golfers) on the overall individual leaderboard.Â
