BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - FDU Men's Soccer forward
Luke Ayaz was named the NEC's Player of the Week in this week's conference release. In FDU's last three matches Ayaz scored two goals while tallying four shots as the Knights won all three games in the last week of play.
In FDU's win over Rider, Ayaz opened the scoring against the Broncs, as the Knights cashed in a great passing play, and would use that advantage to wear down Rider and grab a victory.
In FDU's next match against Siena, Ayaz buried the goal that would ice the game, putting the Knights ahead 3-1 with just 12 minutes left on the clock. In those games, Ayaz totaled four shots and four points, as he is now second on the club in both goals and points, only trailing sophomore forward
Jeremie Pelade.
Pelade was one of the three Knights that grabbed Prime Performer honors this week, as in the week of play Pelade scored a goal and tallied an assist while firing off 10 total shots, four of which finding the target. Pelade was once again the recipient of a game-winning goal as his penalty kick tally pushed FDU past Rider last Monday.
Knights goalkeeper
Matheus Franca was also named a Prime Performer for the second time this season, as he has continued to anchor the Knights back line. In the Knights last three matches, Franca has mad eight saves, while only allowing a pair of goals. Franca's week was highlighted by a clean sheet against Big East opponent Villanova where he made three saves, guiding the Knights to a win.
The final Knight to grab a Prime Performer nod was co-captain
Ryan Kopay. Kopay buried the game-winning and game's only tally in FDU's victory over Villanova, while also adding four shots, three of which on net. Kopay also added key minutes in efforts of closing out matches, as the Knights have been stingy on the back line all season, with the most recent three games being no different.
FDU will take their unbeaten record on the road for their next match against the NJIT Highlanders, as the two Garden State foes are set for a date in Newark. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and the game can be streamed on America East TV.
