TEANECK, N.J. - FDU Baseball (28-15-1, 21-5 NEC) used three home runs to top the CCSU Blue Devils (14-22, 11-15 NEC) at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex Satruday afternoon.
CCSU jumped on the Knights starting pitcher
Jeremy Cheeseman early, as the Blue Devils grabbed one of their two runs in the opening frame, as Louis Jordan hit a home run over the center field wall. The Knights would only need one inning to respond, as catcher
Nick Quagliato launched home run number seven of his season to tie the game in the second inning.
Both starting pitchers would exchange zeros until the sixth inning of the ballgame, where the Blue Devils scratched across their other run of the game with a RBI single, which gave them the lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, where the Knights would throw a big time counter punch.
FDU got the game tied as Quagliato grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed
Diego Urreta to come around and score, knotting the game at two. Just one batter later,
Caleb Walker would hit his first home run at the division one level, giving FDU the lead by a pair of runs as the two run bomb made it 4-2 FDU.
The Knights got the lineup turned over where once again
Johnathan Gomez and
Hunter Ray did damage, as Gomez got in front of Ray, and
Hunter Ray hit his 26th home run of the season, sending one over the center field wall and onto Cove Road, giving the Knights a 6-2 advantage.
FDU closer
Nick Noble would take the ball from Cheeseman to start the seventh inning and slam the door on the Blue Devils from there, only allowing one hit but no runs, as he picked up his sixth save of the season.
Saturday's win marks the 28th for FDU, and the 21st in NEC play. FDU will have the opportunity to clinch an NEC tournament berth with a win and a Le Moyne loss, as the Dolphins play Stonehill Sunday afternoon.
FDU and CCSU will meet for the final game of the three game set Sunday afternoon with the first pitch being set for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on NEC Front Row with Ryan Johnston calling the action.
