THE BRONX, N.Y. - FDU Baseball (22-13, 15-3 NEC) topped the Fordham Rams (15-22, 6-9 A-10) in a Wednesday rematch at Houlihan Park in the Bronx. The Knights used two homers from graduate designated hitter
Jeremy Delamota, as well as an additional homer from
Hunter Ray to get past the Rams.
The Knights were the first to score on Wednesday afternoon, as the first of
Jeremy Delamota's home runs got the burgundy and blue on the board, as Delamota launched a solo shot to open the scoring, and the Knights would hold a 1-0 lead entering the third inning, where
Hunter Ray would add to that lead with a towering shot off the Houlihan Park scoreboard, extending the FDU lead to a pair of runs.
Fordham would respond with a RBI single, followed by a lead-taking grand slam, as all of a sudden, the Rams held a three run lead at the conclusion of the first third of the ballgame. The Knights would cut into the lead with a RBI single from
Hunter Ray to make the game 5-3, but in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Rams continued to hit FDU starter
Mason Hebert. Fordham would score four more in the bottom of the fourth inning, extending their lead to a 9-3 count after four.
Johnathan Gomez and
Hunter Ray would once again come up big for the Knights as FDU looked to respond in the fifth, Gomez doubled home
Nick Quagliato and
Caleb Walker, and that effort was followed up when Ray hit a two run triple down the right field line, scoring both Gomez and
Travis Stroh. Ray would later achieve the extra 90 feet as he scored on a failed pickoff, and the Knights trimmed the Ram lead down to just one.
Jeremy Delamota would tie the game with a RBI single that scored
Diego Urreta, and that was followed by a
Nick Quagliato sacrifice fly that gave FDU the lead.
Fordham was once again aept to punch back, as the Rams tied it up in the bottom half of the sixth inning with an RBI single, the seesaw battle of a game would enter the seventh inning all square at 10.
FDU retook the lead in the top of the seventh, with a
Garryn Plummer RBI single that gave FDU an 11-10 lead.
Jeremy Delamota came up big again for the Knights just three batters after Plummer, and Delamota hit his fifth homer of the season, and the second of the ballgame.
The Knights pitchers would shut it down from there, as the Knights got help from Jason Demarco, who recieved his first collegiate win,
Logan Magdits, and closer
Nick Noble. FDU was able to nail down their 22nd win of the season, avenging the loss to the Rams on Tuesday.
FDU will hit the road for their next NEC series this weekend against the Le Moyne Dolphins. The series is set to start on Friday, April 17th at Dick Rockwell Field in Syracuse.
