UNION, N.J. - FDU Baseball (3-6, 1-1 NEC) dropped the second of a three game set against the Wagner Seahawks (2-9, 1-1 NEC), by a final score of 13-6 at Jim Hynes '63 Stadium.
The Seahawks jumped out to a huge lead early in the matchup, grabbing the first eight runs of the ballgame, scoring three in the third inning, and then four in the fourth. The Knights showed some fight by cutting into the big Seahawk lead, trimming the lead down to five with a three run home run from
Hunter Ray to make the score 8-3 in the fifth inning.
Wagner then bounced back in the bottom of the frame, plating five runs that all but put the game out of reach for FDU. The Knights were able to score a couple more runs as
Jeremy Delamota,
Garryn Plummer, and
Jimmy Mantuano all collected RBIs in the late stages of the game. Wagner was able to get the ballgame over the finish line to top the Knights by a final score of 13-6.
Despite the final score of the ballgame,
Hunter Ray and
Nick Quagliato both collected three hits in the ballgame, Ray is hitting .500 (6-for-12) in this week of games, and is the hottest batter in the FDU order. Quagliato matched his season hit total in today's game, and played a great role behind the plate.
FDU and Wagner will get together for a rubber match of the three game series, with first pitch tomorrow set for noon at Jim Hynes '63 Stadium.
