NORTH EASTON, MASS. – FDU women's basketball (20-4, 11-0) picked up a road win over Stonehill (8-14, 4-7) on Thursday night by a score of 80-49.
The Knights jumped out to a hot start, going on a 9-2 run over the first six minutes of action. Bella Toomey got involved in things early for FDU. The junior scored six points in the first quarter to help lead the way. To close out the quarter, Rebecca Osei-Owusu hit a pretty mid-range jumper just before the buzzer, giving the Knights a 22-11 lead heading into the second.
That lead would balloon in the second quarter. FDU closed out the first half on a dominant 17-2 run. The Knights allowed just one made field goal to Stonehill across the final six minutes of the first half. When halftime rolled around, FDU held a 44-20 lead.
The large halftime lead allowed the Knights to cruise to victory in the second half. The Knights would lead by as many as 39, making it increasingly difficult for Stonehill to cut into the lead. FDU walked away with a 31-point victory for their 11th conference win in as many games this season.
- Ava Renninger and Madlena Gerke led the way in the win, each scoring 15 points.
- Renninger went a perfect three-of-three from beyond the arc, while Gerke knocked down four triples.
- Rebecca Osei-Owusu and Bella Toomey also reached double figures, each scoring ten points.
- The Knights were blisteringly efficient in the win.
- FDU shot 53.3% from the field, and 46.2% from three in the victory.
- FDU out-rebounded Stonehill 35 to 29.
- The Knights have now won 30-straight regular season games against NEC competition.
