McFadden's Three Aces Lead Knights to First Win of the Season

HACKENSACK, N.J.- The FDU Knights take home their first victory of the 2026 campaign. The Knights (1-3) took care of Roosevelt (2-3) in four sets on Jan. 24. FDU logged five service aces and hit .270 in their victory. 
 
Set 1: 

Laydon Biro recorded a pair of kills early as the Knights jumped out to a 5-4 lead. The Lakers narrowed the gap to just a one point FDU lead, 12-11. John Petrucci logged a kill before Dylan McFadden fired off his first of three aces in the contest. The Knights increased their lead 14-11. 

Following a Roosevelt run, the Knights led by three late in the set 21-18. To conclude the set, the Knights rattled off four of the final five points which was capped off by an Andrew Michael kill. the Knights tok set one 25-19. 
 
Set 2: 

The Knights jumped out 4-1 early before Roosevelt tied the contest at 4-4. The teams were close before a Baboloki Silwane service ace extended the Knights lead 13-7. 

McFadden and Biro continued the intensity, stringing together three more points for the Knights, inflating their lead 18-8.

After a pair of FDU errors, the Lakers remained down 24-18. Vinil Shah put the set to rest with a kill set up by Silwane. 
 
Set 3: 

The Lakers leaped out to a 5-1 advantage early. Two errors and two Biro kills kept the Knights within three points as the Lakers still led 7-4. Roosevelt never trailed as they bested the Knights in set three 25-21. 
 
Set 4:

The Lakers appeared to continue their momentum in the fourth set, leading 11-8. A kill from Shah jump started a seven point run from from the Knights which included five unforced errors by the visiting Lakers. The Knights led 15-11. 

An Eli Nelson ace was bookended by Andrew Miachel kills as the Knights continued to pull away 20-15. 

Shah put the contest on ice with a croos-court kill as the Knights picked up their first win of the season.

What's Next

The Knights host St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday Jan. 28. The first serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. with coverage on NEC Front Row. Free pizza will be provided by Pizza Knight for those presenting an FDU ID.
