Four Knights Record Goals as FDU Moves to 1-0 in NEC Play

TEANECK, N.J. – FDU women's soccer (1-5-3) picked up their first win of the season in a 5-0 rout of Delaware State (2-5-2) on Thursday evening.

The match kicked off conference play for a Knights team who was picked second in the 2025 NEC Preseason Poll.

FDU began their scoring barrage early in the action. In just the sixth minute, Marina Burzaco found herself open in the box and sent home a strike to put FDU up 1-0. Burzaco, the reigning NEC Player of the Week, found the back of the net again just six minutes later. A 12th minute goal put the Knights up 2-0 and marked back-to-back games with braces for Burzaco.

The Madrid native now leads the NEC with four goals on the year, all of them coming in the past two games. She also leads the team with ten points.

"She [Burzaco] does so much for us," said head coach Eric Teepe. "Not only pushing lines and playing off of her, but it is also the defensive presence and the pressure she provides."

The 2-0 score would hold into halftime, and when the second half began, FDU continued their scoring ways.

Just one minute and 29 seconds into the second half, Katia Cardaba converted a chance to record her first goal of the 2025 campaign. Burzaco picked up an assist on her classmate's goal.

Cardaba was joined on the scoresheet five minutes later by Andrea Ougaard, who also buried her first goal of the season to extend the Knight lead to 4-0. Allie Nase was credited with this assist.

Laura Martinez decided to join the fun in the 55th minute, extending the FDU lead to 5-0 with her first score of the season. The All-NEC midfielder how now scored five goals ion her career.

The Knights saw a split effort in goal in the win. Laia Oller Ramos took the first 45 minutes, blanking the Hornets and recording one save. Rosemarie Leblanc handled the second half in net, keeping Delaware State off the scoreboard as well.
