QUEENS, N.Y. – FDU men's soccer (3-1-2) dropped a Thursday night match to St. John's ( ) by a score of 1-0.
The loss snaps a five-match undefeated streak for the Knights, their best start since the 2017 season.
"It was a good game," head coach Jaymee Highcock said. "I thought we applied ourselves well. We knew what [St. John's] was going to bring, and they brought that."
The game started off in a defensive slugfest. St. John's got five shots off through the first, but none were able to find the back of the net.
FDU had just two shots, but had the best chance of the first half. Jaime Barbero started a fast break, and the Knights found themselves with numbers in the box. Barbero crossed an excellent ball to Arnau Rabassa Guillamon, who just barely missed a goal, hitting off the crossbar.
The two teams went into the halftime break in a scoreless tie.
Shortly into the second half, the Red Storm broke the drought. Bjorn Nikolajewski hammered a goal past FDU goalkeeper Matheus Franca, putting the Johnnies up 1-0.
Across the remaining thirty minutes, St. John's turned up the defensive pressure, stifling the FDU attack. The Knights got just three shots off in the final 45 minutes.
The Knights will continue a BIG EAST road trip, as they head to face Seton Hall on Sunday night. Kickoff in South Orange, N.J. will be at 6:56 p.m.
