BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The NEC released their first weekly awards for the men's soccer season on Monday afternoon. FDU's
David Ivascu was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the first week of the preseason.
Ivascu picks up the honor following an electric collegiate debut against NJIT on 8/24. The freshman from Canada checked into the match in the 85th minute in the midst of a scoreless tie. Just two minutes into his college career, Ivascu found himself open in the box, and sent home a screaming shot to give the Knights a 1-0 lead in the 87th minute.
The goal wound up winning the Knights the match, giving the Knights their first victory of the 2025 season.
In addition to Ivascu being named Rookie of the Week, he was named an NEC Prime Performer for his heroics. Also named an NEC Prime Performer was FDU goalkeeper Matheus Franca. Franca helped the Knights to their 1-0-1 week, including a clean sheet in the victory over NJIT on 8/24.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, August 30, when they travel to Jersey City to face Saint Peter's.
