HANOVER, Md. – The FDU Knights (15-37, 15-14 NEC) took on the Coppin State Eagles (15-33, 13-16 NEC) in game two of three resulting in a 7-6 victory.
Jeremy Cheeseman gave a strong start on the mound for the Knights, lasting five innings and collecting three strikeouts before turning to the bullpen. In relief we saw
Logan Magdits and
Ian Barrett who pitched the remainder of the game.
Coppin State got on the board early with a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give them a 1-0 advantage. However, FDU answered immediately with three runs in the second inning coming from RBI singles off the bat of
Anthony Chiappetta and
Tyler Worth, followed by a sacrifice fly from
JR Bozek to give the Knights a 3-1 lead.
The Eagles took a 5-4 lead after tacking on four runs over the course of three innings by way of three singles and a sacrifice fly.
With the bases loaded the Knights reclaimed the lead in the eighth inning with a clutch two-run double off the bat of Chiappetta to lift them 6-5 over the Eagles. FDU added an insurance run in the ninth with a sacrifice fly from
Jimmy Mantuano.
Coppin State scored one in the ninth, but despite threatening to take the win, FDU closed the game with a 7-6 victory.
