TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (8-25, 8-7 NEC) dropped their midweek contest to Sacred Heart (15-16, 9-6 MAAC) by a score of 14-1 in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon.
Graduate right-hander Ian Barrett got the start for the Knights and was sharp early, retiring the first six batters he faced in order across two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts.
Stephen Proko took over in relief in the third and allowed two runs, giving Sacred Heart an early 2-0 advantage.
FDU answered in the fourth. Johnathan Gomez doubled to right with one out and came around to score when Diego Urreta reached on a fielding error by the Sacred Heart shortstop, trimming the deficit to 2-1.
The Pioneers added two more runs in the sixth, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and a wild pitch to stretch their lead to 4-1.
Sacred Heart broke the game open in the seventh, plating ten runs in the frame. The outburst included a grand slam by CJ Nolan, a two-run double from Ronan Donohue, two FDU fielding errors, and a bases-loaded walk.
With the run-rule in effect, the Knights were unable to mount a comeback, falling to the Pioneers 14-1.
