BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The FDU Knights (8-26, 8-8 NEC) opened their conference series against the LIU Sharks (16-16, 10-3 NEC) on Friday, dropping game one of the three-game set by a score of 6-1.
Graduate right-hander
Ben Pika got the start for the Knights, tossing four innings. After a rocky first frame—where he walked the leadoff batter and hit another—Pika managed to escape the jam without allowing a run. He finished his outing with three strikeouts, surrendering three runs on four hits.
Out of the bullpen, the Knights turned to
Ethan Rembish and
Logan Magdits for the final four innings. Rembish struck out two and allowed three runs over three innings, while Magdits worked a clean eighth.
LIU struck first in the fourth inning, using a double, a single, and a sacrifice bunt to plate three runs and take a 3-0 lead. The Sharks added three more in the seventh via a sacrifice fly and a two-run single to right field, extending their advantage to 6-0.
FDU broke up the shutout in the ninth inning thanks to an RBI single by
Anthony Sarro, but the Knights ultimately fell short, dropping the series opener 6-1.
WHAT'S NEXT
FDU and LIU will continue the series on Sunday, April 13, with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
