HACKENSACK, N.J. – #1 FDU (26-3, 16-0) prepares to host #8 LIU (6-23, 3-13) for an NEC Quarterfinal match-up on Monday night. Coverage will be available on NEC Front Row, with tip-off coming at 7:00 p.m.
The Knights will start their quest to take the throne, and earn a trip to the big dance. FDU enters the conference tournament as the #1 seed, following the best regular season in program history.
FDU finished the season 16-0 in conference play to clinch the 2024-25 NEC Regular Season Title. The Knights became just the seventh team in conference history to "run the table" and post an undefeated season in conference play. The most recent NEC team to have an undefeated conference stretch was the 2012-13 Quinnipiac Bobcats squad.
Entering the conference tournament, FDU is led by a group of dynamic stars. Graduate student forward Teneisia Brown has been one of the most dominant players in the Northeast Conference. Brown averages 13.7 PPG, as well as a conference-leading 9.8 PPG. Brown is also playing red-hot basketball as of late. The Montego Bay, Jamaica native ended the season on a streak of nine-straight double-doubles. Brown posted 15 double-doubles across the regular season to lead all NEC players.
The Knights have also gotten a remarkable season out of freshman point guard Ava Renninger. Renninger averaged 14.2 PPG across the regular season to lead the team in her first year of collegiate basketball. Renninger scored in double figures in 23 of 29 appearances this season, and ended the season as the 13th highest scoring freshman in Division I.
On the flipside, the Knights will face an LIU team that has struggled as of late. The Sharks enter postseason play on a six-game losing streak. LIU and FDU recently met on March 1, when the Knights travelled to Brooklyn to face the Sharks. The Knights emerged victorious in that contest, posting a 73-46 road victory. The Knights also defeated LIU earlier in the season, when they took down the Sharks by a score of 75-45 in Hackensack on February 15.
The Knights and Sharks will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The winner will earn a spot in the NEC Semifinals on March 13.
