ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop (1-4) defeated FDU (1-5) in a back-and-forth game on Saturday afternoon in South Carolina.
The teams traded goals at the start of the game before
Addie Weidner knotted things at 3-3 with 1:04 to play in the first period.
FDU briefly led 5-4 before Winthrop scored two-unanswered and pulled ahead 6-5 at halftime.
The third period was FDU's best of the game. They scored three times and held Winthrop to just one goal. At the end of the third, FDU was ahead 8-7.
Winthrop took control of the game and outscored the Knights 5-1 in the final quarter.
Brielle McInaw posted another strong performance. She scored three goals and added an assist. She is leading the Knights with 11 goals and 13 points. She has scored in five of six games this season.
Nora Codianni also found herself back in the scoring column after seeing her goal streak snapped last game. She scored twice today.
Skylar Goodman made ten saves.
