ORLANDO, Fla. – FDU men's tennis dropped a completive match against North Dakota to open their spring break trip earlier on Monday afternoon. Four of the six singles matches went the distance, and the Knights won a combined 12 games across the doubles matches, but lost the match 5-2.
"Against a tough North Dakota team, we fought hard in tough, windy conditions," said head coach
Alex Cole. "We narrowly lost the doubles point and then were four '3-setters' in the singles, and we won two of them."
FDU dropped #1 doubles 6-4 and #2 doubles 6-3. Taurus Mickus and Gareth Ong were leading 5-4 at #3, before doubles play concluded.
Joshua Obinye dominated the first set of #1 singles, 6-0. However, his opponent bounced back and won the next to sets to win the match.
Thomas Linley fell in straight sets at #2.
Gryffin Minor played #3 singles and lost the first set 4-6. Minor then settled in and forced a third set with a tight 6-4 win in set two. The decisive set went to a tiebreaker and Minor won it 7-5.
The first two sets of Mickus' match at #4 were polar opposites. Mickus won the first set 6-0 and dropped the second 1-6. He would go on to win the third set 6-4.
Andrew Nicolae lost the #5 singles match in straight sets.
FDU plugged in
