Knights Sweep FDU Fencing Invitational

HACKENSACK, N.J. - FDU Fencing took to the strip for their lone home meet of the 2025 calender, where the Knights swept the FDU Fencing Invitational, winning all four of their bouts Sunday afternoon.

The Knights were led by Sára Szeverényi who only lost one inidividual bout throughout the entire day, logging nine wins to lead FDU.

FDU opened play, matching up against Lafayette in the opening round. The Knights dominated the Leopards from the start, as FDU took the Saber section in a 9-0 rout. The Knights continued to dominate as FDU won all but one bout within the Epee weapon section. FDU then edged Lafayette in the Foil category with Szeverényi, Layla Stevenson, and Samaria Sabal all contribuing wins for the Knights. FDU cruised to victory in the first bout, winning by a final score of 22-4.

The Knights would next square off with Yeshiva University in round two. The Knights once again dominated in the bout, topping Yeshiva by a final count of 26-1. Isabel You, Sherleen Yunes, and Lauren Collela all chipped in three victories to make it a clean sweep in the Epee category for FDU. The momentum continued to roll into the Foil section, where the Knights bested the Macabees 8-1 behind three wins from Gabriela Como and and Genesis Pena. FDU then swept Yeshiva in the Saber category, making for a 26-1 final score.

FDU would then fence Stevens College in what was the most entertaining matchup of the season for the Knights. Both teams went back and forth, but the Knights were able to best the Ducks in a 16-11 affair. Szeverényi and Como both chipped in key points for FDU in the Foil category, then Isabel You won two key bouts in the Epee category, as FDU topped the Ducks 5-4. Finally, the Saber team lifted the Knights over the top as the Saber squad won 8-1 to secure the victory for FDU.

In the final bout of the afternoon, FDU took to the strip against Hunter College. The Knights strung together five consecutive victories in the Epee category to win the weapon category by a final score of 8-1. Once again, the Knights maintained the momentum, as Stevenson, Szeverényi, and Como all notched big time wins in the Foil section. FDU was able to close out the Hawks in the Saber weapon category, with Zoe Rupp, Carmen Bolt-Turner, and Meya Colin all grabbing wins in their last bouts of the day. FDU topped Hunter by a final count of 18-9.
