HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (14-3, 4-0) will continue their 2024-25 campaign Monday afternoon when they host Chicago State (1-18, 1-3). Tip-off will come at 2:00 p.m. with coverage available on NEC Front Row.
The Knights are looking to stay hot on what has been a historic start to the season. FDU has tied a program record for best start to a season with their 14-3 record. They are tied with the 1991-92 NEC Championship team for the best start to a season by any FDU team. A win over Chicago State would set a new mark.
FDU is also looking to extend a seven-game win streak. The Knights last lost on December 11 to Rutgers on the road, and have been on an absolute tear ever since. The Knights have won by double-digits in all but one of their wins on the win streak (63-55 win over Saint Francis on 1/9). The Knights are also a remarkable 8-0 at home on the season, a mark they will look to keep improving on.
The Knights ride the wave off of a 75-58 victory in their last time out against Central Connecticut State. Four different Knights starters scored in double figures to pick up the team's fourth conference victory in as many games.
As they look to make history, the Knights will have a number of players to lean on. Graduate student
Abaigeal Babore has unlocked another level of her game in conference play. Babore leads the Knights with 15.0 PPG across NEC contests this season. The Merchantville, N.J. native is also averaging 4.3 RPG, and 2.8 APG during the conference slate so far.
FDU has also gotten stellar play out of their two top scorers in
Teneisia Brown, and
Ava Renninger. Brown leads the Knights in scoring across the whole season with 13.6 PPG, and has picked up five double-doubles. Renninger has broken out as one of the top freshmen in the nation, averaging 13.4 PPG in just her rookie year.
Renninger is coming off of a team-high 17 points in the Knights last matchup over CCSU. Renninger has led the Knights in scoring seven different times this season as just a freshman.
It will be a marquee matchup of NEC rookies on Monday in Hackensack. Chicago State features perhaps the lone competition
Ava Renninger has for a potential NEC Rookie of the Year title. Freshman guard Aiyanna Culver has broken out in a big way for the Cougars, leading the team with 12.8 PPG. Culver has won the NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Rookie of the Week award in each of the last two weeks. She has found another gear in conference play, averaging 15.5 PPG across NEC contests. The two freshman guards will make for a thrilling showdown.
