DOVER, Del. – Four different Knights found the back of the net in FDU's 5-1 win over Delaware State on Thursday night. The match marks FDU's first win of the season and earns them a 1-0 start in NEC play.
It did not take long for the Burgundy and Blue to take control in Dover. Within the first 20 minutes of play, Katia Cárdaba buried a goal and
Katie Ward completed a brace with two scores. These were the first two goals of Ward's career. This was a part of a dominant first half that saw the Knights outshoot Delaware State 22-3.
The second half was more of the same with FDU outshooting their opponents 18-5.
Helena Lehr scored a goal in the 50
th minute to increase their lead to 4-0. After the Hornets were able to find a goal,
Anna Cacciuttolo erased any thoughts of a comeback with her first career tally. This made the score 5-1, which would hold for the remainder of the match.
Senior
Briana Esteves made her first start of the season tonight and logged 65 minutes for the Knights. In addition, rookie goalkeeper
Cassandra Gallagher made her collegiate debut, making two saves in just over 33 minutes of play.
At the end of 90 minutes, FDU produced 40 shots.
