Leblanc Captures NEC Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week Honors

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Fresh off her third clean sheet of the young season, Rosemarie Leblanc has been named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week and the NEC Rookie of the Week. This is the freshman goalkeeper's second straight Rookie of the Week honor.

Leblanc totaled 14 saves across two matches for FDU dating back to last Thursday. She collected eight saves in a loss at Hofstra, but Leblanc truly made her case for these awards Sunday at University Stadium.

The Knights took on Bucknell and needed all six of Leblanc's saves to preserve the 0-0 result. The Quebec native came up large for the Burgundy and Blue several times in the match, but none bigger than when she stopped a penalty shot in the second half to keep the game scoreless. This was the first time the freshman faced a penalty shot in her collegiate career.

Leblanc is now eight games into her first season in Teaneck and the Knights have completed their non-conference slate. Currently, Leblanc ranks first in shutouts, third in save percentage, and third in goals against average in the NEC. She has been a crucial piece to a FDU defense that is second in the league in goals allowed.

FDU will begin conference play this Thursday at Delaware State. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 6 p.m.
