HACKENSACK, N.J. – Jack Castleberry and FDU men's basketball announced the addition of six players to their 2024-25 roster on Tuesday morning. This year's class of Knights includes two international signings, three collegiate transfers from two different regions of the country, and one high school product local to the metropolitan area.
Raysean Johnson, Guard, Canterbury School
A Montgomery, N.Y. native, Johnson put together a 1000-point career at Valley Central High School, located just 44 miles away from FDU. Johnson's team captured the Section 9 Orange II League regular season title in 2023. The guard spent the 2023-24 season at the prep level with Canterbury School in New Milford, Conn. He is one of three freshman joining the team next season out of this group of six.
Castleberry on Johnson: "Raysean is a strong, tough, playmaking guard who can affect the game in a variety of ways. He is coming to us after a prep year in one of the top leagues in the country, and we are excited about him choosing FDU and what he will bring to our program."
Josiah Francis, Forward, United Scholastic Academy
Francis comes by way of Scarborough, ON and is one of two signings from Canada in this class. The forward stands at 6'9 and showcased a versatile scoring arsenal in his time at United Scholastic Academy, while utilizing his long frame to be a consistent presence on the glass. Francis will join the Knights as a freshman.
Castleberry on Francis: "Josiah is a very athletic, talented wing who can bring a lot of things to our program. His versatility, and his ability to play on the perimeter as well as inside is a great fit for our system and style. We are thrilled he chose to come play at FDU."
Chidube Ekwommadu, Guard, Fort Erie International Academy
The owner of a 6'11 wingspan, Ekwommadu represents the second Canadian signing for Castleberry's staff in this class. A native of Mississauga, ON, he competed at Fort Erie International Academy, where he became a scoring threat from all areas of the floor. Ekwommadu will also be a freshman next season.
Castleberry on Ekwommadu "We are very excited Chid is coming to FDU. He is a talented player who's shooting and versatility on both ends of the floor will be an asset to our program. He fits perfectly into our program and culture!"
Dylan Jones, Guard, Snow College
Jones, who will be a junior in 2024-25, competed at Snow College in Ridgefield, Utah. As a Badger, Jones started in 28 games over two seasons, including all but one in 2023-24. The guard drained over 41% of his three-point attempts last season and averaged 13.6 points per game. The sharpshooter from Saratoga Springs, Utah shot 71.8% from the line in two seasons at Snow.
Castleberry on Jones: "Dylan is a big-time shooter, one of the best in the country at the Junior College level this past year. He can impact the game in a variety of ways, and we can't wait to welcome him and his family to the banks of the Hackensack."
Ahmed "Tyree" Barba-Bey, Guard, Jefferson
Originally from Piscataway, N.J., Barba-Bey finished his high school career at Piscataway before heading to Jefferson, where he played for four seasons. Bringing in the most experience in the class, Barba-Bey will be a graduate student in the 2024-25 season. As a senior, he averaged 13.8 points per game and started all 32 games for the Rams. His team would capture the CACC Championship and move on to the 2024 NCAA Division II tournament.
Castleberry on Barba-Bey: "Tyree joins us after a successful four-year career at Jefferson. He is a proven winner who brings a lot of things to our program and will provide playmaking and veteran leadership."
Bismark Nsiah, Forward, Jefferson
Joining Barba-Bey on the move from Philadelphia to Hackensack is his teammate Bismark Nsiah. The 6'7 Bronx native was a part of the Jefferson team that won the conference title and participated in the Division II NCAA tournament. Nsiah averaged 11.5 points per game and grabbed 6.3 boards per contest as a senior. He enters the fold next season as a graduate student after playing in 87 career games for the Rams.
Castleberry on Nsiah: "The addition of Bismark is one we are very excited about. His experience, basketball IQ and physicality will be a great addition to our group. After a very successful Division II career we are looking forward to big things from him at FDU."
