DOVER, Del. - An early deficit put FDU in a hole that they could not climb out of in Sunday's rubber match with Delaware State. After winning game two yesterday, the Hornets solidified the series win with an 11-5 victory today. FDU falls to 9-5 in conference play, while the Hornets move to 8-7.
FDU's opening statement came courtesy off a two-run bomb from
Joey DiMotta. This first inning home run was the young freshman's third of the season.
Those Knights' good vibes were quickly dampened by seven first inning runs from the Hornets first inning runs of their own and then tacked on another for good measure in the second.
Some speedy base running mixed with good fortune got the Knights two runs back in the third, but Delaware State immediately answered with a home run that squashed FDU's momentum.
Vladimir Ceverino put together a respectable four-inning outing in relief. He struck out six and allowed two earned.
FDU struck out ten times at the dish.
Justin Sierra and
Nick Quagliato both produced multi-hit games.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights will return to Teaneck Wednesday for a 3 p.m. tilt with Hofstra. They'll be looking to avenge a road loss at the hands of the Pride from earlier this season. Fans can stream the game on NEC Front Row.
