TEANECK, N.J. - The FDU Knights (13-17, 9-5) faced the Hofstra Pride (11-20, 3-6) in a midweek matchup resulting in a 3-2 win for the Knights.
Hunter D'Amato topped off the day with his 226th career hit, making history as the career hits leader in FDU history.
Senior infielder,
Hunter D'Amato logged career hit number 225 off a bunt in the first inning to tie the school record of career hits. Later in the game in the third inning, D'Amato logged career hit number 226 to break the record with a single to right field.
The Knights struck first in the second inning thanks to contact off the bat of
Brelon Harden who reached first base off a fielders choice with
Jeremy Cheeseman on third drawing the throw home and scoring off a loose ball. The play was initially called an out, but after the play was reviewed it was overturned and called safe to give the Knights their first run of the day.
Hofstra scored a run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
FDU answered back in the bottom of the fifth with their final two runs of the day. With a lead-off double from
Nate Dudeck, the Knights were immediately put in scoring position.
Joan Sosa landed on base via walk and
Justin Sierra singled to load the bases. With a selective eye at the plate, D'Amato drew a walk leading Dudeck to score. With contact off the bat of
Joey DiMotta, D'Amato drew the throw to second giving the Pride their second out, but allowing Sosa to score giving the Knights a 3-1 lead.
The Pride scored a lone run in the eighth inning with a homerun off the bat of Luke Masiuk.
The Knights solidified a 3-2 victory over Hofstra to snap a three-game losing streak going into conference play this weekend.
Jeremy Cheeseman started the game on the mound for FDU and pitched three innings where seven outs were recorded through strikeouts. We saw
Joey Kosowsky,
Zac Capps,
Ian Barrett and
Luke Russo make relief appearances pitching the final six innings. The bullpen combined for four more strikeouts giving the Knights pitching staff 11 total strikeouts on the day.
The Knights picked up seven hits and five walks in today's game.
Hunter D'Amato logged a multi-hit day with two hits along with Nick Quagliato. Sierra, Cheeseman and Dudeck all recorded one hit each.

The Knights will return to action to face LIU at LIU Baseball Stadium in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Friday, April 12. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
