TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (11-14, 8-3) and the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (0-22, 0-9) closed their three-game conference series with a crucial 9-8 win. The Knights swept the series against the hawks with this win.
The Knights struck first with a triple off the bat of
Justin Sierra who was plated by a single from
Joey DiMotta to take an early 1-0 in the first inning.
Maryland Eastern Shore answered in the second inning with four runs as a result of two doubles from Anders Brown and Carter Rieben who totaled two RBIs each in the inning taking a 4-1 lead.
The Hawks tacked on a lone run in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 5-1.
Leading off the seventh inning, Anders Brown singled to start the inning and Carter Rieben landed on base by getting hit by a pitch. The two runners scored by a home run from Bronson Taylor giving the Hawks an 8-1 lead.
The Knights answered back with a leadoff double from
Joey DiMotta and was followed by a home run from
Jeremy Cheeseman to close the deficit to 8-3.
With bases loaded,
Jeremy Cheeseman continued his monster day at the plate in the eighth inning with a grand slam, scoring DiMotta,
Hunter D'Amato and
Joan Sosa. With this shot, the Knights closed in on the Hawks bringing the score to 8-7.
In the ninth, with Sierra on base, D'Amato ended the game in fashion with a no-doubter over the right field fence to win the game by a score of 9-8.
Zac Capps started the game on the mound for FDU and pitched 5.2 innings striking out six of the 31 batters he faced. We saw
Ian Barrett make relief appearances pitching the final 3.1 innings. He faced 14 batters but only allowed three runs in the win.
The Knights managed to pick up eight hits and five walks in today's game. DiMotta and Cheeseman picked up another multi-hit game with two hits each. Sosa, Sierra, D'Amato and Quagliato all recorded one hit each.

The Knights will return to action at home on Wednesday, April 3 to take on Manhattan. The game will be played at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
