TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (8-13, 5-3) and the Le Moyne Dolphins (6-13, 3-5) faced off in a Sunday doubleheader resulting in a split series. Game one Le Moyne came away with a 4-2 win and game two resulted in an 8-4 victory for the Knights.
Le Moyne jumped on the board first in the first inning off a single to centerfield to score two runs that was followed by a sacrifice fly to plate the third run of the inning.
In the second inning, with a double to left field from
Brelon Harden, the Knights brought in one run. With a quiet few innings, FDU made some noise in the fifth resulting off a leadoff triple from Harden and a sacrifice bunt from the bat of
TJ Werner to score one.
Despite the Knights threat to take control of the game, the Dolphins tacked on an extra run in the eighth inning. FDU ultimately fell to Le Moyne by a score of 4-2.
Graduate student
Joey Kosowsky started the game on the mound for FDU pitching a total of four innings and striking out three. We saw
Patrick Gardner and
Ian Barrett make relief appearances. The duo pitched a combined four innings striking out three, allowing only one run scored.
Brelon Harden led the Knights with two hits. The senior outfielder went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double.
Joan Sosa,
Hunter D'Amato,
Zack Will and
Jeremy Cheeseman all tacked on hits of their own in game one.
FDU jumped on the board first with a two-run first inning. With a contact made off the bat of
Zack Will, the shortstop opted to get the out at first, bringing in
Justin Sierra who was on third base. With a balled scorched off the bat of
Jeremy Cheeseman,
Hunter D'Amato found the opportunity to score off the fielding error in right field to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, Le Moyne answered with four runs of their own resulting off a walk, a single and a batter being hit by pitch to load the bases. Andrew Sullivan, singled to score one and Brady Keneston doubled to clear the bases giving the Dolphins a 4-2 lead. This marked the last time the Dolphins were able to score in game two.
FDU immediately responded with a single off the bat of
Jeremy Cheeseman to start the fourth inning.
Joey DiMotta followed it up with a single of his own to move Cheeseman into scoring position at second base. Despite Cheeseman being thrown out at third, DiMotta trailed him to steal second base.
Ben Avila was granted a walk to give the Knights residency on two bases with
Franklin Gomez Jr. at bat. Gomez Jr. singled to centerfield and advanced to second off an error by the centerfielder giving Avila and DiMotta the opportunity to score to knot the game at 4-4.
Joan Sosa singled down the left field line to plate Gomez Jr. to take a 5-4 lead going into the sixth inning.
Zack Will singled through the right side and was moved to third by a hit by pitch and a walk and was brought in by a sacrifice fly to centerfield from
Luke Russo, extending their lead to 6-4.
Looking for insurance runs,
Hunter D'Amato got on base via walk and moved himself into scoring position with a steal of second base. A single off the bat of
Zack Will scored D'Amato. FDU opted for a pinch runner in place of
Zack Will to bring
JR Bozek onto the basepath. Bozek moved himself around the bases stealing second and third and was brought home with a single from
Joey DiMotta. This secured the Knights 8-4 victory over Le Moyne for game two.
Zac Capps started game two on the mound for FDU. The graduate pitcher pitched six full innings striking out nine of the 26 batters he faced, only allowing four runs.
Vladimir Ceverino made an appearance out of the bullpen to pitch the final three innings where he struck out four of the ten batters he faced and only allowed one hit and no runs.
The Knights managed to pick up 12 hits in today's game. Four Knights managed to pick up multiple hits today with Sosa, Will, DiMotta and Gomez Jr. tallying two hits each.
Justin Sierra, D'Amato, Cheeseman and Russo contributed a hit each as well.

The Knights will return to action at home on Tuesday, March 26 to face Siena at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
