TEANECK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (7-12, 4-2) took on the Marist Red Fox (5-14) in a midweek matinee resulting in a 10-7 victory for the Knights.
Graduate student
Justin Sierra entered today's game one stolen base shy of the 100 mark by one. In the first inning upon reaching base via single to centerfield, Sierra followed up with swiping second base to secure that 100 stolen base accolade.
The Knights were able to get on the board first in the bottom of the first with a bases loaded walk granted to
Brian Sanders, bringing in
Joan Sosa.
Despite a quiet second inning, Marist jumped out to a 3-1 lead due to a three-run homerun off the bat of Louis Rodriguez.
The Red Fox lead was short lived as Sierra led off the bottom half of the third with a single up the middle and was plated by a
Hunter D'Amato triple.
Franklin Gomez Jr. followed up with a sacrifice fly to score D'Amato to knot the game at 3-3.
Marist answered in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead that the Knights squashed in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a
Joey DiMotta homerun over the right field fence. This blast marked the freshman outfielder's first collegiate homerun and gave FDU a 5-3 lead going into he sixth inning.
The Marist offense put together a three-run addition to take a 7-5 lead. This marked the last time the Red Fox held a lead and the last runs they scored in the game.
In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Ben Avila lofted a ball over the centerfield fence to ignite the FDU offense. With the bases loaded, the Marist pitching staff gave up four consecutive walks to bring in four runs which boosted the Knights to a 10-7 victory.
The Knights managed to pick up 11 hits in today's game. Three Knights managed to pick up multiple hits today with Sierra leading the charge with three and Sosa and D'Amato with two of their own.
Tommy Verga,
Zack Will, DiMotta and Avila contributed a hit each as well.
Nicholas Feretic totaled five innings pitched facing 24 batters putting eight of them away via strikeout.
Jake Simon,
Vladimir Ceverino and
Ian Barrett came in out of the bullpen for a combined four innings. The trio combined for six strikeouts to finish the game.
UP NEXT
The Knights will hit the road to face Le Moyne at Dick Rockwell Field in Syracuse, N.Y. for a three-game series. The series opener is set for Friday, March 22, first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
