AMHERST, N.Y. – FDU men's volleyball headed on the road for their first conference matchup of the season against Daemen.
The Knights had a strong first set showing, before losing momentum and falling to the Wildcats 1-3.
Comebacks were the story of the night as FDU trailed in every set, including the first where the burgundy and blue trailed 9-16 before finding a rhythm. Sophomore
Jamal Ellis Carballo came out swinging in set one, tallying six kills and only two errors. He was followed by Senior
Ethan Young who had a very successful opening with five kills, including the set winning point at 28-26.
Sets two and three saw the Knights plagued by unforced errors, including 10 service mistakes and 12 hitting faults. Despite the blunders and early leads by Daemen, the burgundy and blue were able to close the gaps in both sets. Junior
Jack Lydon was an immediate assist for the Knights when he checked in during the second set, replacing junior
Artem Vetrov who was struggling at the hitting line. Lydon tallied four kills on his first four swings which assisted FDU in their comeback. Ultimately the Knights were not able to answer the undefeated Wildcats and lost set two 17-25 and set three 20-25.
Set four saw a more aggressive performance from the burgundy and blue, who totaled 14 kills and only four errors for a hitting percentage of 0.357. Despite the stronger showing, Daemen was dominate defensively, leaving the Knights unable to respond.
FDU was led in kills by Senior
Ethan Young who tallied 16 on the night, followed by
Jamal Ellis Carballo with 14. The sole ace of the match came from
Artem Vetrov who also totaled a team high six digs.
What's Next
FDU will return to conference action tomorrow (02/24) at D'Youville. The match is set for 2 p.m. at the College Center Gym in Buffalo, N.Y..
