HACKENSACK, N.J.- The Knights took on their third-straight nationally ranked opponent in George Mason on Saturday night. After controlling momentum in sets one and two, George Mason outlasted FDU in the third to complete a 3-0 sweep. The win brings the Patriots back to .500 and marks the Knights' third-consecutive loss.
After they dropped their first set at NJIT last night, the Patriots made sure a slow start was not an issue. They rolled to a 25-13 game one victory and hit .679 in the frame. FDU held their own in set number two before the Patriots went on an 8-3 run to finish out the set 25-19. In set number three, George Mason trailed 19-14 before winning 11 of the final 15 points in the match to finish the sweep.
Jamal Ellis Carballo paced the Knights with 13 kills.
Artem Vetrov made a nice contribution of five kills on eight attacks and added an ace for FDU.
James Barone stepped in nicely to the setter spot with 26 assists.
As a team FDU hit .243, while the Patriots swung it at a .476 clip.
WHAT'S NEXT
FDU heads to the Buffalo area next weekend for a pair of NEC matches at D'Youville and Daemen. They'll take on Daemen next Friday, February 23, and will conclude their trip at D'Youville the next day. Both matches will be streamed on NEC Front Row. Last year, FDU completed their season with back-to-back wins against these opponents.
