LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (7-2, 0-0) picked up a 62-54 victory over the Rider Broncs (1-7, 0-0) on Sunday afternoon.
In the win, FDU was led by a dominant performance from
Teneisia Brown. She led the way for FDU with 19 points and 10 rebounds, logging her third double-double of the season. Brown has now recorded a double-double in back-to-back games, following a 15 point, 10 rebound performance against Lafayette on Wednesday, December 4.
The Knights got out to a slow start, trailing Rider by a score of 12-8 after the first quarter. FDU was able to flip the script on Rider in the second however, getting out ahead thanks to a dominant shooting performance, converting 5-of-7 from downtown in the second frame. The Knights would wind up out-scoring the Broncs 23 to 11 in the second to take a lead into halftime.
Things began to tighten up in the second half. Rider came out firing to begin the half, going on an immediate 7-0 run to make things a one-point game. They would stick around for the remainder of the quarter, and the fourth quarter came around with FDU holding just a 40-38 lead.
The Broncs were able to take the lead back during the fourth quarter, going up 42-41 with seven minutes left, prompting a timeout from head coach
Stephanie Gaitley. The timeout decision proved excellent, as FDU came out of the stoppage on fire, going on a 9-0 run to take an eight point lead with under four minutes left.
FDU was able to hold on through the final minutes, converting opportunities at the line on intentional fouls and winding the clock down to their seventh win of the season.
