Spectacular Shooting Performance Earns Barba-Bey Player of the Week Honors

The FDU guard set the program record for points scored against an ACC opponent Saturday at Boston College.

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - For the first time in his short FDU career, Tyree Barba-Bey is the NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Player of the Week. Barba-Bey joins Terrence Brown as the only Knights to receive the recognition this season.

FDU's contest at Boston College this past Saturday quickly became Barba-Bey's coming out party. The Piscataway, N.J. native totaled a career-high 31 points in a 78-70 loss. What was most impressive was Barba-Bey's efficiency. He went 10-12 from the field and 8-9 from downtown.

A performance of this nature necessitates placing it in the proper historical context. 31 points are the most scored by an FDU player since 2020. It is also the most amount of points an FDU player has ever scored against an ACC opponent. In terms of the current season, 31 points ties the NEC single-game high.

Efficiency wise, Barba-Bey is just the fourth player in the country this season to score 31 or more points on 12 or less field goal attempts. He is the first FDU player to accomplish this in the program's recorded history. The guard is only the eighth NEC men's basketball player to do this since 1997-98.

Barba-Bey shot off most of his fireworks in Chesnut Hill from beyond the arc. His eight makes from deep are tied for the second most in FDU history. He became just the second player in the NEC since 1997-98 to make eight threes against a Power Five opponent. To top it off, eight made threes with one or fewer misses has only happened in Division I 12 other times since the start of the 2022-23 season.

FDU's starting guard is emerging as a key contributor offensively. A week prior to the breakout at Boston College, Barba-Bey scored 15 points at Minnesota. In his last two games against Power Five opponents, he is averaging 23 points. On the season, Barba-Bey has raised his scoring average to 9.9 points per contest. Thanks to his recent explosion from deep, his three-point field goal percentage is nearing 46%. He is now fourth in the conference in made threes.

Barba-Bey will aim to carry his recent success into conference play when it begins on January 5. The Knights will take on Wagner in Staten Island to kick off their 16-game NEC campaign.
