VILLANOVA, Pa. – Breakout sophomore guard
Terrence Brown continued to impress and went for 27 points in a 86-72 loss at Villanova on Wednesday night. FDU falls to 4-8, while the Wildcats improve to 7-4.
The 27 points match a season-high for Brown, who was 10-18 from the field and knocked down three triples. He raised his scoring average tonight to 22.2 points per game.
The contest inside Finneran Pavilion started out as a back-and-forth affair. The teams traded makes and found themselves tied 13-13 at the first media timeout. Out of the break, Villanova grabbed a two-point lead. However,
Jo'el Emanuel answered with one of FDU's ten threes on the night to give FDU a 16-15 advantage. A steal and transition layup from
Bismark Nsiah stretched the Knights lead to three.
The Wildcats utilized a 21-10 run to take a 36-28 lead. A three-pointer from
Dylan Jones settled the Knights down for the remainder of the half. They trailed 45-36 at the break.
Villanova extended their lead to 19 less than seven minutes into the second period. The Knights responded with an 11-3 run, highlighted by threes from Brown and Jones, to close the gap to 67-56. This is as close as the Knights would get.
The Knights have reached now 70 points in all but one contest against ACC, Big East and Big Ten opponents this season. Their offense is now averaging 80.9 points per game.
Off the bench, Nsiah provided 11 points on 4-5 shooting. He was one of four Knights in double-figures.
The Knights did a good job of taking care of the basketball in this one. They limited themselves to just nine turnovers and conversely created 13 assists. FDU forced Villanova into 11 turnovers.
