PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A late La Salle comeback spoiled a spirted FDU effort in a 77-72 loss for the Knights on Wednesday night. The Explorers improve to 7-5, while the Knights drop to 4-9.
Terrence Brown led the team with 21 points, but it was
Jameel Morris that provided FDU's spark. The sophomore guard matched a career-high 13 points and produced three steals in 23 minutes off the bench. Morris was a perfect 3-3 from downtown.
Jo'el Emanuel also got into double-digits in the scoring column. The forward contributed 12 points and grabbed six boards.
The Knights trailed by as many as seven in the first half but made three of their last four shots heading into the break to cut La Salle's lead to 36-34.
The Explorers notched the first two points of the second half, before FDU answered with the next 11, including three makes from beyond the arc. This stretch put FDU ahead 45-38.
La Salle continued to fight, slashing their deficit to as little as two, but the Knights kept finding responses. Morris scored five points and Brown knocked down two free throws in a 15-7 FDU spurt that increased their advantage back to ten. They led 68-58 with 6:32 remaining.
In the final 6:32, La Salle outscored FDU 19-4 to steal the victory.
One piece of the stat sheet that provided an advatadge for the Explorers were free throws. La Salle went to the line 30 times, while the Knights paid just 12 visits.
