LINCOLN, NE. – First half turnovers and missed shots put FDU (1-3, 0-0) in a 20-point hole they could not climb out of in an 86-60 loss at Nebraska (3-0, 0-0) on Wednesday night.
Terrence Brown continues to be a major positive in these high-major contests for FDU. The sophomore guard led the team with 23 points on 9-18 shooting inside Pinnacle Bank Arena. This included two connections from beyond the arc on four attempts. He has now scored 18 or more points in all four games for the Knights this season and is averaging 21.0 points per game.
In the first 20 minutes, FDU shot 9-24 from the field and committed nine turnovers. Nebraska, on the other hand, shot 43.8% and turned it over just three times. This culminated in a clunky 45-25 first half deficit for FDU.
The Knights retook the floor in the second half and battled. Ahmed "Tyree" Barba-Bey drilled a three and then Brown converted an old fashioned three-point play to cut the Cornhuskers' lead to 14. The lead would grow back to 19 minutes later, but FDU continued to push. All in all, they opened the second half on a 24-13 run, capped off by a second Barba-Bey three, which cut the lead to 58-49.
Nebraska responded well to FDU's comeback bid. They suffocated the Knights on their way to a 16-4 run of their own. At the 4:33 mark in the second half, they were comfortably ahead 74-53.
Brown (23), Barba-Bey (10),
Dylan Jones (10), and
Jo'el Emanuel (10) all posted double-digit scoring outputs. Jones did this despite struggling from beyond the arc (2-8).
Nebraska outscored FDU 28-7 in points off turnovers in the game.
