Castleberry, Knights Announce Additions to 2023 Signing Class

The six future Knights join Jameel Morris and Tyler Jamison as newcomers for the 2023-24 campaign

HACKENSACK, N.J. - First-year FDU men's basketball head coach Jack Castleberry and his staff have rounded-out the Knights' list of newcomers for the 2023-24 season Tuesday as the Burgundy and Blue welcome six additions to the eight-member signing class. The 2023-24 season marks the 75th campaign for Knights men's basketball.

Emre Barut, Terrence Brown, Davin Francis, DeVante Jamison, Thomas Sutter, Jr. and Jacob Warren join Jameel Morris and Tyler Jamison, the latter two having signed in November 2022.

"We are thrilled with this incoming recruiting class," said Castleberry. "Each of them brings different attributes to our program. They are all high character, hard-working young men. The FDU faithful will enjoy watching them don the Burgundy and Blue."

Barut joins a storied list of international Knights as the six-foot point guard arrives on campus from Antalya, Turkey by way of IMG Academy where he took a postgraduate season. Prior to playing one year in Bradenton, Fla., Barut attended Le Rosey in Switzerland. A member of the 2022-23 IMG Postgraduate Elite Team, the projected Sport Management major earned IMG's Most Improved Player award this year and enjoys paddle tennis in his spare time.

Castleberry on Barut: "Emre is a driven young man from Turkey who just finished up a productive year at IMG Academy. He is a team-first guy is a good decision maker with the ball."

An accomplished scholar-athlete, Brown comes to the Burgundy and Blue from Columbia Heights outside of Minneapolis, Min. where the six-four guard achieved unprecedented accolades, guided by head coach Willie Braziel. Brown, a four-year honor roll student, was a two-time All-Conference player for the Hylanders and was the school's second-ever conference Player of the Year. A Star Tribune All-Metro Second Team honoree, Brown was a Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) All-Star and was named to the Minnesota Mr. Basketball watch list in 2022. Brown spent the past season with Golden State Prep in Oakland, Calif. and has three siblings.

Castleberry on Brown: "Terrence is another guy who is a great fit for our program. He is a high energy guard that is effective both on and off the ball. He is just scratching the surface of how good he can be."

Hailing from Brooklyn, N.Y., Francis joins the six-time Northeast Conference champions from the MacDuffie School where he recently completed a post-graduate year after attending South Shore. A 2022 NYPSAL "AA" Champion with the game taking place at Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets (NBA) and New York Liberty (WNBA), Francis' team also took home the NYSAIS vs. PSAL title, earning the "State Champion" moniker. Francis was named the MVP of the title game. Standing at six-foot-six, Francis also took part in the Chess Club at his school and played club action with side CM3.

Castleberry on Francis: "We are thrilled to bring Davin to FDU. He is a hardworking guy who can stretch the floor and guard a variety of positions. He is a local kid who the FDU fans will enjoy watching him play."

Dorchester, Mass. product DeVante "Bullet" Jamison becomes the fourth Knight to join FDU from Division II St. Thomas Aquinas since 2022 and will be partnered with former teammate Sean Moore on the 2023-24 squad. The five-eight shooting guard racked up the honors in the East Coast Conference, taking home a First Team All-ECC nod, in addition to being named the ECC Tournament Most Outstanding Player. "Bullet" was an NABC Second Team All-District honoree and was named First Team All-Met by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. In 82 games with the Spartans over three seasons, Jamison tallied 624 points, dished out 317 assists, nabbed 198 rebounds and recorded five double-doubles.

Castleberry on Jamison: "Devante is an experienced guard that is used to winning at a high level. He's a lightning-quick guard with a decorated career at STAC where he flourished in a similar style and system."

Sutter Jr. arrives in New Jersey from White Plains, N.Y. The six-foot-three guard attended St. Thomas More in Connecticut and racked-up stellar performances, including a 27-point outing against Putnam Science Elite in January 2022. An honor roll student, Sutter is expected to major in Finance at the University's Silberman College of Business. His father Tom golfed as Texas A&M.

Castleberry on Sutter: "Tom joins us from White Plains, after finishing his high school career at St. Thomas More. He will be a great addition to our program both on and off the court."

Warren comes from Downington, Pa. after a storied interscholastic career for the six-foot-10 center. A 2023 McDonald's All-American Game nominee as a senior, Warren tallied Second Team All-Chesmont League honors in back-to-back campaigns as a sophomore and junior. In those two seasons, Warren was also named to the All-Area Third Team. Coming from a family of collegiate athletes, Warren's grandfather played basketball basketball at Gannon in Erie, Pa. and his older brother Joshua spent four seasons on the men's hoops squad at Cornell. A four-year honor roll student, Warren boasts a weighted GPA of 4.2 and earned his school's Academic Excellence Award for English as a senior.

Castleberry on Warren: "Jake is a tough kid. He's a mobile big man that can play inside and out. He is comfortable around the rim and shooting the three. His versatility and toughness fit perfectly in our program."
