NEW BRITAIN, CONN- The Knights and Blue Devils battled it out on Sunday for the third game of their weekend series. CCSU took two close victories in the Friday and Saturday matchups before the Knights were able to salvage the third game with a 10-4 win. The win puts FDU back in to second place in the conference standings.
CCSU got off to a quick start when they blasted a two-run home run in the first inning to get out to an early 2-0 lead. The Knights had a quick response in the second inning when they loaded the bases and watched
Brelon Harden drive a double into the right center gap to clear the bases and put FDU in front of CCSU with a score of 3-2; the FDU lead did not last long as CCSU picked up a game tying run in the bottom of the second inning off a sacrifice fly.
The Knights exploded in the third inning for four runs which gave them the lead and ultimately was enough to hold off the Blue Devils. The big third inning came on the backs of the meat of the FDU order with
Brian Sanders and
Hunter D'Amato driving in runs off doubles and
Justin Sierra picking up an RBI single. D'Amato picked up four hits on the day which helped extend his current on-base streak to 40 straight games. CCSU picked up one run in the fourth inning off of the Knights starter for their final run of the game and before FDU sent home three more runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach and extend the lead to 10-4.
Ethan Rembish got the ball for the Knights in today's matchup and gave them six innings while allowing four runs and striking out six Blue Devils.
Patrick Gardner relieved Rembish to start the seventh inning and he was able to stifle the CCSU bats for the final nine outs to pick up his third save of the season. He gave up one hit and struck out five over his three stellar innings to close out the win for the Knights.
The Knights are back in action for some mid week baseball on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Monmouth for a battle of New Jersey foes. The game will take place at MU Baseball Field at 3 p.m.
