NEW BRITAIN, C.T.- The Knights kicked off their crucial three-game set at Central Connecticut State on Friday. CCSU entered the weekend with a three-game lead over FDU for the top spot in the NEC. That advantage grew to four as the Blue Devils defeated the Knights by a score of 4-2.
Nicholas Feretic was called upon by
Manny Roman to make a spot-start for FDU and delivered a quality outing. After taming the Blue Devils offense for five scoreless innings, CCSU finally got to him in the sixth. Feretic could only manage one out before surrendering three runs and exiting the game in the inning. He left the day allowing two earned runs over 5.1 IP. Barrett cleaned up the sixth and got all of the remaining outs for the Knights in this game.
Propped up by Feretic's performance, the offense was able to jump out to an early lead. After a lead-off double by
Brian Sanders,
Justin Sierra drove him in with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning. This put the Knights ahead 1-0 until the sixth.
After tacking on one more in the seventh, CCSU took the field in the eighth inning with a 4-1 lead. Sanders, who already had two hits for FDU, got his third in the eighth inning. This one drove in
Brelon Harden and cut the lead to 4-2. The Knights were not able to draw it any closer however, and dropped game one to CCSU 4-2.
Hunter D'Amato extended his on-base streak to 38 games after being hit by a pitch in the second inning.
