BALTIMORE, M.D.- FDU posted a +58 which earned them a fourth-place finish at the Lady Bison Invitational hosted by Howard. The event was played at Baltimore Country Club and lasted three rounds.
The Knights got off a somewhat poor start on Monday morning. In a first round that was delayed by frost, FDU fired a 319. However, in the afternoon they stormed back with a total score of 302. Riding that momentum, the Knights saved their best round for last when they shot a 301 in the final round. This was their low round of the year. Georgetown won the event with a score of +31.
FDU was the second-best team in the field on par 5s due to their scoring average of 5.08 on these holes. Georgetown was the only team that bested them in this department. The Hoyas averaged a 5.03. The team also made 151 pars on the week, which was the fourth-highest in the field. The three teams above them all made 154.
Four Knights were able to finish in the top-25 of all golfers. They were paced by
Anete Adul, who finished fourth.
Victoria Schroedl had another strong performance as she finished 12
th.
Kaitlyn You contributed with one of the best outings of her young career, which earned her a tie for 14
th.
Apichaya Chirakunakorn, who sprinted to the finish line in the invitational, finished tied for 22
nd. Kendall Jackson of Howard won the individual crown with a score of even.
Anete Adul showed steady improvement throughout the three rounds. In the first round, Adul bogeyed four holes on the back nine to finish the day with a +5. However, she made sure round two was different almost immediately. She birdied the first hole and went on to make two others in the round. Despite two double-bogeys, Adul stayed composed and finished the day +2. In the final round, Adul canceled out four bogeys by making four birdies. This put her at even on the day and +7 for the week. Adul's nine birdies were tied for second-most in the field. Her fourth-place finish was her third top-10 result in her last four events.
Victoria Schroedl's best round of the tournament came on her second 18. In this round, she made two birdies and 13 pars for a total score of +2 over. This round was sandwiched by a +5 and a +7 which brought her total to +14. Schroedl was exceptional on par 5s throughout each round, finishing with a -3 on those holes which was tied for second-best among all golfers.
Kaitlyn You posted the lowest round of her season and surged up the leaderboard in round three. After scores of +9 and +6 and on day one, You got off to a blistering start on day two. She birdied three of the first six holes and went out in 34. Cooling off a bit down the stretch, You's back nine consisted of three bogeys and five pars. All in all, she was +1 on the day and rose 11 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 14
th.
Apichaya Chirakunakorn also saved her best for last down in Baltimore. After posting a +7 in round one, Chirakunakorn bounced back with a +2 in round two and made two birdies. Chirakunakorn finished the invitational with a +3. These rounds were the second and third lowest of her season. Chirakunakorn finished +21.
The Knights will tune up for the NEC Championship with a match against Princeton on Saturday, April 15 at Springdale Golf Club.
