BRIDEGWATER, N.J. – For the second time in his Knights career and the first time this season
Luke Cantwell has been named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week. He is the first Knight to pick up the award this season.
The Warrington, Pa. native put together a week where it seemed as if he was playing on rookie mode in a video game. The video game type numbers helped FDU pick up two wins on the week against Lehigh and Wagner. Cantwell finished the week with a smoldering .500 batting average by picking up six hits in 12 at-bats. Five of his six hits left Naimoli Family Baseball Complex as he finished the reporting period with five home runs with four of them coming in the 5
th inning or later and three of the blasts coming in high leverage situations and tying the game. On top of those numbers, he produced a .684 on-base percentage with 10 runs batted in on the week.
Cantwell currently leads the NEC in home runs with eight and sits atop the conference with a slugging percentage and ops out of this world at 1.167 and 1.767. He is also only two RBIs away from the conference leader with 19 on the season.
FDU is currently fourth in the conference with a 9-8-1 overall record and a 3-3 NEC record.
They will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Iona in a mid-week matchup at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex at 3 p.m before heading to Baltimore, MD this weekend to take on Coppin State for the first time in NEC history.
