Staten Island, N.Y. - The FDU Track and Field team participated in day one of the Northeast Conference Championships at the Ocean Breese Complex. Three women qualified for the finals tomorrow on day two.
Shantelle Riley secured a first-place finish and second-place finish on day one of the Northeast Conference Championships. Shantelle placed first overall in the 200m dash with a time of 24.87 and second overall in the 60m dash clocking in at 7.79. Those times give her a chance to compete in two finals and take home a couple of medals on day two.
Shaunelle Riley also earned qualification for two event finals. Shaunelle Secured the runner-up position in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 9.01. In addition to the second-place finish, Shaunelle came in seventh place in the 60m dash crossing the finish line in 7.98 seconds.
With a time of 1:21.22, Tricia Phillips secured the fourth position in the overall standings for the 500m dash, earning her a spot in the finals of the event scheduled for tomorrow.
Akayla Morris improved her performance in the 60m dash by clocking in at 8.01, setting a new personal record that was 0.02 seconds faster than her previous best. Despite her impressive time, she did not qualify for the finals of the competition.
Cassandra Meyer also set a new personal record in the 3000m run with a time of 11:49.42. This time is a full six seconds faster than her previous best of 1:55.74
The Knights will look to improve on their performances from day one and carry over their good form on the track to day two of the Northeast Conference Championships tomorrow.
