SYRACUSE, N.Y.- In their final away game of the NEC regular season, the FDU Knights (7-10)(7-2) faced Le Moyne (2-11-4)(1-6-2). Katia Càrdaba and
Ana Salas got on the scoresheet, leading the team to their sixth consecutive victory.
1st half
In a challenging match, FDU and Le Moyne had to contend with the elements as both teams found it difficult to establish their rhythm in the game.
The first significant opportunity arose in the 16' when the Knights were awarded a penalty. Ana Salas broke free towards the goal and attempted to chip the ball over the keeper, who collided with Salas in the process. The penalty kick was taken by Hausen but was could not convert due to exceptional one-handed save from Allison Moreau.
Throughout the first half Le Moyne struggled to mount any substantial offensive threat managing only one shot on goal in the entire period.
2nd half
In the second half the Knights seized control of the game, dictating the style of play and creating significant scoring opportunities.
FDU managed to break the deadlock in the 56'. Kiomy Luperon's impressive run down the right sideline earned the Knights a corner. Naemi Hausen delivered a precise corner kick, placing the ball perfectly for Katia Càrdaba near the front post. Càrdaba executed a powerful header finding the back of the net for her third goal in two matches, securing the lead for the team.
In the 69', the Knights asserted their dominance further. Laura Martinez delivered an excellent pass to Kiomy Luperon who embarked on another impressive run down the sideline. Outpacing her defender Luperon skillfully slid the ball across the net to Ana Salas who calmly tapped it in with her right foot, extending the lead to 2-0.
Le Moyne managed to find the back of the net once but it was a mere consolation as they scored with just 21 seconds remaining in the match with the outcome already firmly in FDU's favor.
"I think the conditions were tough to play in today as we really struggled to adapt to them in the first 25'. From that point on we did a good job of keeping posession of the ball and especially in the second half as we created some great chances." Coach Teepe stated, "We did a great job in the middle of the field today as our players played with confidence and composure which allowed us to dominate the match"
Looking ahead, the Knights are gearing up to celebrate their seniors on senior day, scheduled for Thursday, 10/26, at 4 PM. Delaware State will come to University Stadium for the first time as a member of the NEC as this will be the final regular season home game for the Knights.
