Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Pushes Navy Over FDU Sunday

Hackensack N.J.- The Fairleigh Dickinson Women's Soccer team (0-6-0) faced Navy (3-2-1) today, September 4th at 12 PM. FDU dominated possession for most of the match but could not find the back of the net with any of their opportunities.

How it Happened

1st Half

  • FDU came out with energy and confidence in their game recording two shots within the first 15 minutes.
  • Navy was able to make defensive stops and pressure FDU which made it hard for FDU to find their rhythm throughout the half.
  • Erica Petrie and Lea Egner both recorded shots on target that goalie Mattie Gallagher was able to stop.

2nd Half

  • FDU came out strong in the second half and really found their rhythm with and without the ball early on.
  • The Burgundy and Blue recorded four shots within the first 15' of the half, three of which were on target.
  • Malene Nielsen made a crucial one on one save in the 66', she came off her line with authority and was able to make the angel tough for Caitlin Doran.
  • Navy opened the scoring in the 70' off a corner kick, Olivia Foster was the first to react to the second ball which gave Navy a 1-0 lead.
  • FDU kept pushing hard for an equalizer until the last minute but could not find a breakthrough in the match.
Quoteable

"In the first half we were not aggressive enough with our chances in the final third, but I thought in the second half we absolutely dictated the game and created many chances." Said head coach Eric Teepe. "We have to find ways to start winning games, I feel like today we dictated the game from start to finish but did not come up with the result we wanted which is something we need to fix."
