Hackensack N.J.- The Fairleigh Dickinson Women's Soccer team (0-5-0) faced Saint Joseph's (1-4-0) today, September 2nd at 7 PM. FDU came out strong in the first half but fell behind after a volleyed strike from outside the box that damaged the team's momentum.
1st Half
- FDU started the game strong with possession heavily favoring the Burgundy and Blue who recorded the first two shots of the game.
- Saint Joseph's opened the scoring in the 30' with a world class volley from outside the box scored by Nicole Angelini.
- FDU kept pushing to level the score and tallied three more shots before The Hawks found their second goal.
- Saint Joseph's doubled the lead in the 41' with a goal from Jiselle Daniels whose shot was a bit too strong for Malene Nielsen who was able to get a fingertip to it.
2nd Half
- FDU continued to put the pressure on while looking for a breakthrough but were unlucky with their chances.
- Saint Joseph's padded the lead in the 59' after a goal from Sam Dumont who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
- The Burgundy and Blue tallied 11 shots throughout the match but did not find the back of the net with any of them.
"In the first 25 minutes we did a good job of knocking the ball around with confidence and creating gaps between the lines while creating some good chances that were not capitalized on." Said head coach
Eric Teepe. "It's definitely not the start we wanted to the beginning of the season, but I feel like these games have helped us prepare for the season and get better by learning from mistakes, keeping composure and overcoming adversity"
FDU returns home after a short turnaround to face Navy (2-2-2) this Sunday, September 4th at 12 PM. The game will be played at University Stadium where you can catch the action live or watch it on NEC Front Row.
