HACKENSACK, N.J. - FDU men's basketball head coach
Tobin Anderson added two more student-athletes to the Knights' 2022-23 roster, the first of his tenure, as the Burgundy and Blue announced the arrival ofÂ
Trevon Blassingame and
Cameron Tweedy on the banks of the Hackensack Sunday morning.
Making the coast-to-coast trip from Auburn, Wash., Blassingame joins FDU coming off a WIAA Section 3A championship run which saw his Trojans defeat Rainier Beach 58-48 in the tournament final. Futher collecting accolades, the 6-foot-6-inch shooting guard was named to the 3A All-Tournament Team, WIBCA Section 3A Player of the Year and earned all-conference honors in the North Puget Sound League (NPSL) including First Team All-League in 2020, 2021 and 2022 - in addition to garnering the league's most valuable player honor this past season.
A 1,000-plus point scorer in high school, Blassingame finished his career with 1,346 points, ranking him second in Auburn program history. In the classroom, he earned a student of the month award in 2020 and enjoys fashion, cooking, writing and photography. Intending to major in Business Administration at FDU's Silberman College of Business, Blassingame also has passions for hiking, watching anime, playing video games, reading and taking pictures. He has two siblings, Ricardo and Ryan.
"We are excited to get Tre [Blassingame]," commented Anderson. "He's a winner who competes at a high level and has a relentless work ethic. He has tremendous potential and will be a big part of our Knights family."
Also joining the squad in time for FDU's summer access period which begins Tuesday, July 5, Tweedy arrives in Bergen County from Waldorf, Md. by way of State Fair Community College (NJCAA - MCCAC). In one season with the Roadrunners, the six-foot-seven Tweedy racked up 392 points, leading the side, in addition to 73 assists, 24 steals and 12 blocks. From the field, FDU's new small forward hit 59.1 percent of his shots, shooting 165-for-279 in 30 games, starting 27.
Planning to also attend Silberman and major in Management, Tweedy enjoys playing the trumpet and is a proud member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. On the hardwood at State Fair, Tweedy earned a slot on the NJCAA All-Region Division I First Team and a spot on the MCCAC's First Team - the only Roadrunner to make the First Team.
A graduate of Westlake High School, Tweedy has two sisters in college, Brittany who attends Northeast Conference associate member Howard and India, a student at Bowie State.
On Tweedy joining the squad, Anderson remarked, "It's a great thrill to bring Cam to our FDU family. He's a versatile forward who rebounds, runs and competes at a high level. We know he will have a big impact on our team and program."
