Match Preview: Men's Volleyball Posts Final Home Stand on Friday, Travels to LIU on Saturday

HACKENSACK, N.J. - FDU men's volleyball will compete in a pair of local weekend matchups as they enter the final stretch of their inaugural season. The Knights will post their final home stand against George Mason on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a trip to LIU on Saturday at noon.

Last Time Out
Four Knights logged career performances last weekend in Stratis Arena as the team picked up a sweep against American International and a four-set loss to Princeton.
 
Artem Vetrov led the Knights with a career-high 16 kills in both battles, hitting an average 46.8 percent on the weekend. Against the Tigers, Rui Fernandes anchored the Knights with his second double-double of the season, filling the stat line with 41 assists, 12 digs, four blocks, two service aces and two kills. Fernandes now ranks in the top 50 in the nation for assists and digs.
 
Other career performances came from Jack Lydon, recording his second career double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs, and Santiago La Jara with a career-high four blocks.
 
Scouting the Patriots
FDU will host George Mason in their second meeting of the season. In their initial matchup, the Knights took the Patriots to four sets, ultimately falling as George Mason's Omar Hoyos connected 19 kills and three service aces to lead the Patriots.
 
Hoyos and opposite hitter Jack Bolz continue to lead George Mason with a combined 6.47 kills per set. Bolz most recently led the team in a pair of wins at the University of Charleston, averaging four kills per set on the weekend.
 
Scouting the Sharks
The Knights will encounter LIU for the second time this season after falling to the Sharks in their home opener in January. In that matchup, Luke Chandler paced LIU with 16 kills and eight aces while FDU's Jack Lydon paced the Knights with 15 kills, three blocks and an ace.
 
Chandler continues to lead the Sharks in points along with outside hitter Caden Satterfield. The two led the team on Tuesday to drop St. Francis Brooklyn in five sets with a combined 31 points.  
 
Next Up
The Knights will close their inaugural season on April 22-23 as they head to Charlotte, N.C., to compete in the Independent Volleyball Association tournament hosted by Queens.
