Baseball Falls to James Madison in Series Finale

HARRISONBURG, VA. -The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (1-6, 0-0 NEC) was held to seven hits in a 15-5 loss to James Madison (4-3, 0-0 CAA) at Veterans Park on Sunday afternoon. 

How it happened

  • In the top of the first, Joan Sosa scored one home run to take the early lead. James Madison responded with another home run in the bottom of the first. 
  • Justin Sierra and TJ Werner recorded two hits in the top of the third. Werner stole second, but he was stranded. The Dukes tacked on two more runs to take the lead to 3-1.
  • JMU managed to score 8 runs in the fourth, two of them scored on a wild pitch and one home run. 
  • William Pope was hit by pitch before he advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Sierra drew a walk in the top of the fifth and the Knights added two runs. James Madison scored another run in two outs. 
  • FDU was retired in order in the top of the sixth with two ground outs and a line out. The Dukes added two runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 14-3. 
  • The Burgundy and Blue scored two runs in the top of the eighth to trim the deficit to 14-5. Devin Pelletier blistered an RBI single to bring Brelon Harden in, followed by an RBI double down to right line from Pope to bring Tom Ruscitti back to home.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, James Madison tacked on one more run to extend its lead 15-5. 

Inside the box

  • Jude Baxt threw 2.2 innings and allowed three runs, while recording one strikeout and one walk. Joshua Milleville and Brendan Medoro went .1 innings. Evan Stewart and Gevin Price went 1.1 innings of relief before Brendan Katz tossed the final two innings. 
  • Sosa went 2-3, collecting 2 RBIs
  • Pope went 2-2 with two doubles and an RBI
